About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Director of IT Infrastructure will be charged with strategically leading, planning, and organizing the bank's team of systems administrators and engineers. The successful candidate will manage and maintain the organization’s cloud based network, hardware, storage, and application delivery platforms. They will also have overall responsibility to ensure network, telephony and system availability and performance levels meet or exceed expectations. The new Director must advance the technology operations throughout the institution ahead of the strong growth of the bank.


The successful candidate will collaborate closely with 3 direct reports as well as those in security, architecture, and customer support, to ensure Infrastructure Services, Systems and Networks are meeting internal customer needs.

The successful candidate must be currently working in a similar role for a regional or super-regional bank. It is expected that the successful candidate will be located in Missoula or Helena, Montana.  Relocation support will be provided. 




Immediate Goals & Objectives


→ Quickly develop and build trust throughout the organization with focus on the infrastructure team.

→ Develop an understanding of the banks culture, governance and IT environment.

→ Assess and evaluate current and future personnel needs in an effort to build bench strength.

→ Establish both tactical and strategic cloud engineering guidelines and plans to support various technology solutions.

→ Stay up-to-date on latest technologies, standards, and tools and provide vision, ideas and strategies to help move the organization to the next phase of growth.

→ Develop strategies and roadmap to continue to build out the cloud and data center environment.



  • Ensure that system configuration standards for in-house cloud based systems are developed, documented, implemented and maintained for all IT infrastructure systems, and that these systems are patched, secured and updated in a timely fashion, employing proper testing with no resulting downtime or errors.

  • Ensure that IT infrastructure systems are ready at all times to recover from disasters and other outages in a timely fashion with minimal data loss.

  • Manage the co-located recovery center to meet the organization’s recovery, security and environmental control standards.

  • Manage the organization’s hybrid cloud infrastructure to ensure that availability and performance levels across on premise and cloud based systems meet or exceed expectations.

  • Oversee and direct system capacity planning, engineering, implementation, monitoring and ongoing maintenance to ensure minimal service disruption and optimal system performance.

  • Ensure that any system outages or malfunctions are detected, acted upon, and properly communicated in a timely fashion, and that these systems are returned to their properly functioning state as soon as possible.

  • Hire, train and coach an effective staff to ensure all functions are carried out in a timely fashion with high quality and customer service.

  • Ensure departmental groups communicate and collaborate effectively amongst each other as well as amongst other IT groups, corporate groups and divisions.

  • Allocate resources appropriately among daily duties, support efforts and project work.

  • Manage vendor performance to ensure excellent service is provided, and negotiate best possible pricing when contracting for services.

  • Manage departmental overtime to ensure important work is completed in a cost efficient manner.

  • Maintain satisfactory ratings and results on all IT exams and audits, and follow up timely on remediation efforts assigned to department.

  • Maintain and regularly update policies and operating procedures for assigned department or function.

  • Adhere to and support the use of governance, security and risk management practices.

  • Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

About You




  • Four-year degree in Information Systems or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience managing complex IT infrastructures in financial services required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of management and/or supervisory experience required.
  • Current regional or super regional bank experience is required
  • Current or recent experience managing cloud-based and hybrid cloud environments required.
  • Experience in enterprise architecture, systems design, and systems implementation required.
  • Experience managing network, client/server, cloud based, Windows Operating Systems, and virtual technologies required.
  • Experience designing, integrating, and managing complex infrastructure solutions required.
  • Relevant industry certifications preferred.
  • Experience managing Core Banking Systems in a mainframe environment is preferred (Jack Henry Silverlake is a plus).


  • Expert in communicating and presenting potential technical solutions and advising the business on the technical and business value of the proposition
  • Excellent at communicating and driving highly complex IT solutions to broad audiences/executives, business leaders, product managers, Legal, Security, and implementation specialists
  • Knowledge of:

            → Networks and telephony (UCC) systems

            → Server infrastructure, virtualization, and Citrix

            → Enterprise databases, data warehousing and email

            → MS Azure, Amazon AWS and or Google GCS

            → O365 migration

  • Ability to develop and manage ideas through approval, design and execution

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation/inspection of machines and/or using measurement devices at distances close to the eyes.
