About the Role

Position is responsible for the administration and implementation of duties and functions performed by the Human Resource Department at First Security Bank Missoula, including compensation and benefits administration, recruitment and retention, HR support and assistance for management team, conflict resolution, policy and procedures development and implementation, performance review systems,
and employee support.  Position serves as a member of the senior management team.



Design, plan, implement, monitor and review human resources function at the Bank. Provide training to management and supervisory staff regarding all human resource programs and any other labor and employment issues. Supervise the staff of the Human Resources Department.


Make recommendations to senior management for improvement of bank's policies, procedures, and practices on personnel matters. Provide advice to senior management on organizational issues relating to the effective and efficient use of its personnel, including organization structure, classification systems, and working conditions. Participate in business planning to the extent necessary to ensure effective staffing and human resources.


Serve as the subject matter expert for all human resource requirements and programs. Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and insures Bank's compliance. Responsible for compliance with Federal and State legislation pertaining to all personnel matters. Assist in resolving conflicts and other personnel issues. Conduct and/or participate in employee corrective actions/disciplinary procedures. Consults with legal counsel as appropriate, and/or as directed by the CEO on personnel matters. Work directly with holding company on implementation and ongoing requirements of labor laws and investigations where necessary.


Participate as a member of the Senior Management Team; assist senior management in the annual review, preparation and administration of bank’s wage and salary program. Direct and participate in developing standards of performance and position descriptions. Ensure that employees are evaluated in a timely, fair, and objective manner. Lead in the design of effective appraisal systems and provide training to supervisory and management staff in the area of supervision and evaluation.


Coordinate and implement the employment process for recruitment, promotions, transfers, and selection. Coordinate and conduct recruitment program that facilitates placement of highly competent, committed staff. Assist in the development of succession plans for all management levels. Develop, implement and/or coordinate training opportunities for bank employees. Handle and/or oversee employee safety program; handle work comp claims at division level and work with others to effectively resolve any related safety issues. Participate on committees and other assistance when needed.


Provide leadership and management to assigned staff and the quality of services provided to customers. Effectively manage staff and oversee delivery of services to both internal and external customers. May conduct or assist with hiring team members within area of responsibility. Facilitate and/or provide training related to job knowledge/activities, systems, equipment, documentation and applicable guidelines, procedures and policies. Communicate clearly and effectively with staff to provide instruction, guidance and to develop trust and respect.


Conduct/oversee payroll, benefits, training documentation, and related personnel processes at the Division level.


Conduct or assist with coaching sessions with team members and management/supervisors regarding work performance review, to provide training/mentoring, and to develop/acknowledge individual/group performance in achieving goals. Ensure compliance with procedures, bank policies and government regulations. Perform quarterly coaching/feedback sessions with staff for performance management; conduct annual review; communicate results to staff, together with action items/goals and improvement plans as needed; ensure performance is at acceptable level.  Maintain schedules to ensure adequate coverage at all times. 


Identify and effectively resolve problems. Effectively and positively lead others while demonstrating positive attitude and behaviors. Effectively document and address work/behavior/performance issues; oversee formal disciplinary and/or termination procedures prior to supervisor taking action.  Effectively handle and resolve conflict and work with difficult employees and/or situations.  Handle issues/complaints regarding recruitment, termination and other personnel related processes.  


Maintain personnel policies, recommend and implement changes. Communicate changes in personnel policies and procedures and insure proper compliance is followed. Work directly with department heads ands supervisors to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities on personnel matters.  Support department, division and company initiatives. Ensure compliance with guidelines, policies, procedures and government regulations.


About You


  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum five years of documented work experience in human resources, employee relations, labor relations or related field, with experience in employee and management training. Management/supervisory experience preferred. Demonstrated track record of success in previous job positions is required.
  • PHR/SHR preferred.
  • Must possess valid current driver's license.



  • Working knowledge of policies, procedures and practices pertaining to human resources field; labor and employment law; general payroll systems and practices; and general safety practices and workers’ compensation.

  • Ability to motivate or influence internal or external senior level professionals is a critical part of the job, requiring a significant level of influence and trust. Obtaining cooperation and agreement on important outcomes via frequently complex, senior level dialogues, as well as a professional level of written communication skills are essential to the position. Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise. Must be able to travel to all areas of responsibility, including out-of-town branches and departments within the buildings, sometimes with short notice.

when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
